Taysom Hill received scholarship offers from several universities in the western United States after graduating from high school in 2009.
Some of the schools that recruited him included Arizona, Boise State, Oregon State, Washington State, Utah, Stanford, and BYU.
At first, he committed to Stanford University. However, after returning from his church mission, he decided to join BYU in January.
He chose BYU because Stanford did not allow new players to join the football team until June. At BYU’s Pro Day, Hill impressed scouts with his athletic ability.
He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds and recorded a 38.5-inch vertical jump. Both results were better than the top quarterback performances at the 2017 NFL Combine.
As a freshman in 2012, Hill was the backup quarterback at BYU. The team first used him in special offensive plays because of his speed and athleticism.
His first college pass was an 18-yard touchdown against Washington State in the season opener. During the 2012 season, he played in six games.
He started and won two games before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Utah State. Hill was not selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.
