He also served in the Second World War. Her mother, Elsie Hopkins, was a homemaker. Bonnie grew up with three sisters and two brothers.

The family lived in a four-bedroom council house. Her brothers and sisters introduced her to many types of music.

She enjoyed listening to artists like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and The Beatles. Bonnie attended Rhydhir Comprehensive School in Neath.

She left school at the age of 16 without formal qualifications. After leaving school, she worked in a grocery shop.

Her family was deeply religious and followed the Protestant faith. As a child, Bonnie gave her first public performance in a church chapel.

Bonnie Tyler Death

On May 6, 2026, Bonnie Tyler underwent emergency surgery in Faro, Portugal. She was treated for a perforated intestine.

After the operation, doctors placed her in a medically induced coma. She remained in the intensive care unit (ICU).

When doctors tried to wake her from the coma, she suffered a cardiac arrest. The medical team successfully revived her.

On May 12, 2026, her spokesperson said she was still seriously ill but in stable condition. The doctors were hopeful that she would recover.

On June 15, 2026, Bonnie woke up from the medically induced coma. However, she remained very unwell. Bonnie Tyler passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 75.
